    An Interview with Sidney Teodoruk:

FG: How did you get started doing what you do?

    ST:
I’ve picked it from my Dad like he picked it up from his Dad. I’ve been drawing and painting all my life but got seriously into it as maybe a form of therapy when I was bedridden for 3 months with a broken back. I had so many paintings that when a friend saw them, he suggested I exhibit them. I had never thought of that before. And so, I did, and the rest is history, I guess.

FG: How would you describe your art today?

ST: When I was studying at The National Art School in Sydney, my drawing teacher, Jeff Rigby (who is a highly accomplished and respected artist himself) said that I was a colourist. So, I’ve basically stuck with that ever since. I titled myself The Patron Saint of Colour.

    FG: What's your inspiration?

ST: The Yin and Yang of life. Everything and nothing at the same time. Death itself inspires me.

FG: Which is the most provocative/courageous/original action you made as an artist?

ST: To be a full-time artist and not having a plan B. Almost 10 years in now supporting myself through my art and auctioning off my work to raise money for various charities each year! I’m proud of that. It’s important to give back.

FG: What wouldn’t you do without?

    ST: Love.

FG: What do you need to feel happy?

    ST:
Painting and making art. It’s the reason I get up every morning.
